Responsible management of waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE or e-waste) within the context of the development of a ‘smart nation’.


Presentation synopsis

The session will provide insight into the general trends and issues that are destined to arise with the development of a ‘smart nation’ and how they can be mitigated. As such, the session will focus on the implications of e-waste and the sound management of this problematic yet burgeoning waste stream, which will be a key issue to be addressed in anticipation of Curaçao’s ‘Smart Nation’ status.


Biography

Ms. Jonelle René Jones is a 10-year career professional in the environmental management field. Trained in Trinidad and Tobago and across Europe, Ms. Jones brings together the theory and practice from both the developed and developing worlds in order to apply the best knowledge and information towards solving the critical problems facing environmental management and development within the Caribbean.

She is an expert in the area of the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment, or e-waste, having spent the past four (4) years working on assessing, presenting solutions and training on this burgeoning issue within the Caribbean region and internationally. She also provides expertise and insight into the area of waste recycling from both a policy standpoint as well as from a technical perspective.
